Biography
(and wonder about Chapinteer #2's sanity)

A long time ago and far, far away
Is not the subject we're discussing today
Instead our focus is on a New Jersey town
Born in Princeton, then moved around…

Was a girl named Chapin, that's part of the name
Add Mary on front and you've got the whole thing
February 21st she entered this world
And things kind of changed, so the story is told:

Three other sisters, M.C. second to last
They packed up and moved, kept moving on past!
Past Tokyo, Japan, to the Capitol, D.C.
That's where she lives, that's where she'll be.

She went to high school like all of us do
And along the way she learned a song or two
By then it was time for some high education,
At Brown U. Chapin learned her punctuation.

A philanthropist, secretary, lacrosse coach, ice skater,
A few of these jobs would pay the bills later
But it was in college her Dad thrust her out onto stage,
We should all thank him that we're reading this page!

Now Chapin was into this thing called performing
She'd sing all night long and sleep in the morning
She worked 9 to 5 to pay those darn bills,
Thankfully she couldn't forget what music instills.

Playing coffeehouses, bars in D.C., and the like,
Staying up late; working for tips every night
A spat with buddy John Jennings and a tape was made,
"Hometown Girl" went to Sony, and they were amazed.

A record deal, "Opening Act," and "Never Had It So Good,"
Fame was coming as fast as it could
Eight CDs to her name, five Grammy's, two books…
Chapin has proven she's worth more than one look.

With Cal and Seamus, Chapin's dogs, she travels the globe
And you can find Chapin on a stage with a strobe
Because the music is the key; it's the reason she's here
It's the reason we call ourselves the Chapinteers!
