JOHN JENNINGS  I Belong to You

(Vanguard)  This second album from the singer-songwriter-gui-
tarist-producer best known for co-shaping Mary Chapin Carpenter's sound is a beautiful downer about the futility of love and relationships.  The jazzy blues meditation of "My First Career," which compares life to a circus, delivers more thrills than the big top itself.  But the best cut is the title song, with Carpenter, about a couple locked in a cycle of physical abuse.  Not recommended for manic-depressives.
